Kenya Sept 2013

Dear brothers and sisters,

On behalf of the Brahma Kumaris, I want to extend our deep compassion and send thoughts of calm and healing to all of those affected by the terrorist attack at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi. We have personally lost friends in this attack and our powerful thoughts are with the families of those who have lost their lives as well as those affected by this. It is not easy losing loved ones, yet the knowledge of the soul being eternal comforts us and we know that those who have gone are truly in God’s hands.

It is at times like this when we need to turn our minds to God and draw on His compassion to bring strength, peace and understanding to our hearts so that we can keep our minds free from anger, fear and hate. One can never understand what leads to such brutal action, but we can only overcome such hate with peace. This will allow for our own healing.

It is in dark moments like this that we also witness the resilience, unity and generosity of the Kenyan people. These values define the innate strength and spirituality of the people and will help us heal with time.

With blessings of peace,

Regional Coordinator for the Brahma Kumaris in Africa

BK Vedanti

New Year Message 2013
Dear Friends,
Greetings of peace for the New Year.

I want to share a message for the new year with you. But more than a message, I want to share my pure wish and hope that each one of you will bring benefit to yourself and also to others in the year ahead.

This is not only a new year, but it is also the beginning of a new age. It is a confluence of three things: (1) On the one side is the Supreme signaling each of us and saying, “Child, this is what you have to do;” (2) On the other side is Time facing us and saying, “Recognize what you have to do;” (3) And in between Time and the Supreme is each of you remaining alert, attentive and clever so that you may understand the signals of both Time and the Supreme and know what you must do.

There is a very old devotional song: “Oh God, show the path to the blind ones, for they are stumbling.” This is what is happening in the world at this time. Most of the people of the world are blind to their own weaknesses, and they are suffering. Now is the time to free the soul from these weaknesses and to awaken to the awareness of the self, asking, “Who am I?” Learn to go deep inside, to separate yourself from the body and from the material world and relations. Human beings are not able to forgive each other. But that One, the Supreme, is the Ocean of Forgiveness, who melts everything from the past and gives us the strength to forgive ourselves and others.

God is our Protector. My wish for the New Year is for you not to be afraid, because our Protector is here. There’s nothing to be afraid of. Experience the company of that One and have faith that a world of unity and oneness is coming.

With love and good wishes for the New Year and the coming New Age,

BK Janki

Aligning Awareness and Action for the Future We Want -

…..We suggest that a spiritually aligned life naturally embraces the well-being of the self, one’s family, one’s community and the world….. Universal principles and natural laws such as co-operation, living cycles, cause and effect and nonlinearity apply to the spiritual, energetic world and to the outer, natural world, because they are really one world, appearing to be two…
- From the Statement for Rio + 20 by Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University and the Call-of-the Time Dialogue Network

Read about our participation in Rio + 20, learn about our delegation and see our calendar of events at the Brahma Kumaris Environment Initiative Website:

The Brahma Kumaris Environment Initiative aims to awaken greater environmental awareness within our own organisation, as well as collaborating with and learning from others through dialogue, partnerships, UN conferences and local initiatives. Awareness raising retreats are held regionally for our own community and for the public.

Remembering Robin Gibb

The Brahma Kumaris want to express appreciation for the beautiful voice and generous life of Robin Gibb. Time after time in venues from Miami, to Oxford, to London he made himself available to serve, donating his time, spaces in his homes, and his reflections on and concern for the world. We are remembering our long friendship with Robin’s wife Dwina whose inner strength and dignity continue to be a source of inspiration.

Dadi Janki's reflections on Robin:

His heart was so clear and pure that he was able to easily draw the power of spirituality from Dadi. When Dadi listened to Robin sing the song he had written for her some years ago at Wembley Arena, she was surprised at the beauty of the song. She had the thought that clearly this was the creation of a soul who is very close to God. When a soul has been an instrument for such service, his future will be an elevated one. Dadi is remembering Dwina at this time and sending love to the whole family.

New Year Message 2012

Dear Friends,

On the threshold of 2012 we are uncertain about what time may hold for us. Ours is a time in which there are two energies at work: an ascending energy and a descending energy.

We are reminded constantly of the descending energy and its destabilizing effects on the world, increasing feelings of fear, anxiety and hopelessness.

Perhaps less visible, but assuredly more powerful, is the ascending energy. Like new growth below the ground in late winter, ascending energy is working quietly in the hearts and minds of people everywhere, shaping a new story. We see it in the surge of those seeking spiritual truth and in the hundreds of thousands of civil society organizations requesting transparency, authenticity, and a return to values.

We have a choice about which energy we affiliate with, about where we put our support. We make this choice at the level of thought. When we allow anger, greed, or fear into our thoughts, we strengthen the descending energy, and we lose our capacity for generosity and mercy.

When we meet situations with peace, love, and persistent happiness, when we are careful not to say or think anything that would hurt another's heart, we amplify the energy of ascent.

We find these qualities inside of ourselves, as they have always been our true nature. But to find them ready in moments of need, we have to nurture them daily. To make the greatest contribution to the world at this time, keep the fire of goodness alive in your heart and mind. Fill yourself with the energies of peace, love and happiness and let them infuse your every action.

With love

BK Janki

COP17 UN Conference on Climate Change, South Africa

27th November 2011

We are on the eve of COP17 in Durban, 40,000 people are gathering in Kings Park Stadium with world faith leaders and environment activists to offer prayer and meditations to prepare and support the difficult negotiations ahead.

The following is a special message being shared on behalf of Dadi Janki, Administrative Head of the Brahma Kumaris, at the rally.

To all my brothers and sisters from around the globe, I greet you in peace.

As we begin our deliberations for COP17 it is important that we consider the ideas of our interconnectedness and personal responsibility.

Our task is to stay in harmony and unity. Violence, dishonesty and selfishness destroys truth. Further corruption, competition and criticism are destroying trust and that creates fear in society.

The power of spirituality and God’s power work in a unique way. Let yourself be a trustee of the mind and body, then the intellect won’t be trapped and it will be free. When the intellect is free then God can use me as an instrument. When the intellect is looking at things from an external perspective, it cannot see truth. We have to make our intellect clean and help others to become clean. Cleanliness of the intellect means to create a nature that seeks to take virtue and goodness. For this take a minute of silence before you speak. Positivity has great power. It is this quality, that we have to acquire now to create harmony . We need to keep that elevated vision of each other: love expands our vision. It is easy to love God, but it is more difficult to have awareness of the soul and even more difficult to understand each one’s nature. Be introverted, learn to listen and don’t think too much. This will help you to see the truth. We need to transform ourselves and this will help others to transform.

This is world service.

Om shanti.

Message for Norway, July 22nd

We all at the Brahma Kumaris wish to express our sincere condolences and sympathies to those who have lost loved ones or have suffered in the recent events in Oslo and the Island of Utoeya. We wish you peace and solace.

It is difficult to understand how such events can happen but it seems to be a part of a rising tide of intolerance around the world sometimes leading to acts of such severe violence. It is shocking to find such violence here in Norway, the administrative home of the Nobel Peace Prize, where openness, tolerance and democracy are prized values.

Here at the Brahma Kumaris, we live to promote peace. We believe we cannot fight for peace; we can only find it within ourselves, allow it to emerge and then share it with others openly. It is possible to find that peace, even in the midst of difficult and painful circumstances.

We welcome you to join us as we sit for extended meditations to help spread loving, peaceful vibrations to all those who have been struck by this tragedy.
